Janelle Faye Newcomb

Watercolours

As a child growing up in Southern California, I had a passion for horses. I learned to draw by observing them in my surroundings and in an attempt to preserve the feeling of being in their presence.

After moving from Los Angeles to the Province of Quebec in 2002, my passion for making art was reignited when I was introduced to a herd of horses at a horse sanctuary in the Charlevoix region. These horses became the subject of my watercolours. My intent was to reveal their emotional presence and their sentient connection to the landscape.

In 2019 I moved to the Saint John River valley in New Brunswick. I paint landscapes outdoors during the mild seasons. I collect specimens of flora and fauna for studies created indoors during the harsher months. In my paintings today, I seek to share the healing experience that comes from spending time in nature.
